Incentives and rewards are given to staff who actively support the entrepreneurial agenda

Incentives and rewards for staff, who actively support the higher education institution in advancing its entrepreneurial agenda are crucial for raising involvement and commitment. Incentives and rewards should be available at an individual level as well as for faculties/departments. Examples include:

·         Development sabbaticals;

·         Rewards beyond research;

·         Additional monetary resources (budget, personnel, infrastructure);

·         Publication and teaching success criteria;

·         Utilisation of office and laboratory spaces for entrepreneurial activities;

·         Reduction of teaching hours;

·         Part-time options for staff starting and running businesses;

·         Study visits to successful ventures, regions and organisations; and

·         Awards, for example for "student ambassador of the year", the "most entrepreneurial professor", and the "most enterprising administrative staff".

HEIs need to identify incentives and rewards that suit their organisation and people best.
