Since 2013, HEInnovate, a joint initiative of the European Commission and OECD has been supporting individual higher education institutions and higher education systems to assess and develop their innovative and entrepreneurial potential, as foreseen under the European Strategy for Universities.
This hour-long HEInnovate online webinar will take place on the 10th of December, 2024, at 5 pm CET. It will engage representatives from Viana do Castelo Polytechnic University, Educons University Faculty of Project and Innovation Management, and Heirloom Labs/Heirloom Foundation to share their experiences of how they have integrated HEInnovate at higher education institutions, making them more innovative and entrepreneurial.
Speakers will describe how they became engaged with HEInnovate, the HEInnovate tools they implement at higher education institutions and how the tools have increased these institutions’ innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. Their future plans on the use of HEInnovate will be shown.

About the speakers and moderator:
- Ana Teresa Oliveira (LinkedIn profile) is the pro president of IPVC that leads teaching and learning, pedagogical innovation processes, curricular innovation and flexibility. She has the honour of managing several teams in a universe of 650 passionate faculty members, driving them to curiosity and innovation, along with their 6000 students. She is a researcher and a professor in human development and human resource management. At the presidency, she coordinates several institutional international and national funded projects financed by the European Commission and the Portuguese Ministry for Education. She also coordinates specific research projects with funding from the European Commission (Horizon Europe) and has a track of coordination in research and institutional intervention projects on learning and teaching.
- Katarina Pavlovic, (LinkedIn profile) is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Project and Innovation Management, where she focuses on bridging academic knowledge with practical applications in the business and innovation ecosystems. With over 20 years of experience, Katarina combines her academic expertise with hands-on support for startups and SMEs, mentoring and guiding them through strategic growth, market-entry, and innovation challenges. Katarina is passionate about connecting academia with industry, promoting entrepreneurial thinking, and supporting the development of innovation-driven ecosystems. Her work emphasises collaboration, practical education, and empowering organisations to turn ideas into transformative solutions.
- Steve Stevens (LinkedIn profile) is a co-founder of Heirloom Labs and Heirloom Foundation. He has 15+ years of experience in Academia in teaching, creating entrepreneurial pathways, ecosystem collaboration, internationalisation and policy. Through Heirloom Labs, he creates entrepreneurial pathways for researchers (cross-university all over Europe), supports universities in becoming ‘entrepreneurial universities,’ and helps analyse, optimise, and implement their innovation strategies using HEInnovate. Since 2015, Steve has been a member of the HEInnovate Expert Group, leading international workshops.
- Rebecca Allinson is a Managing Partner at Technopolis Group, and she is responsible for projects/work in the field of European and UK public policy, specifically related to the Higher Education, Research, Information Society, and Enterprise Policy
